Can the status control option be used for other types of Project Status like "Closed"?

We would like to know if the status control option be used for other types of Project Status? If yes what are they and why it can or cannot be used?

In the below SR we had been proposed to status control option for the project status as "Closed". (SR 3-15041634731: Closing the Project and Impact of the closed project in AM when running Accounting Entries)
