How to get started using EDD with embedded BIP

We are on JD Edwards World version A9.2.  We are looking for a solution to print documents real-time in PDF (such as PO or Ship Ticket) with ability to merge additional documents.  We are looking at EDD with embedded BIP in combination with a Windows Application Server to accomplish this task. Has anyone else done this or has experiencing with EDD / BIP that could help? We do not want to BI Publisher for report develop or stand-alone usage We want to take advantage of APIs to make calls between the AS/400 IFS and application server to print these documents
