Updating Item Status as INACTIVE

Hi

We need to inactivate items that we no longer record transactions.

We have more than 5000 items to update and data load doesn't work so well ...

We also need to overwrite item description to DO NOT USE while updating the item status.

Can anyone advise what is the best way to do that?

Is it OK to do an SQL update on MTL_SYSTEM_ITEMS updating only item description &item status.
