SZMCU insert for F4101Z1 item master creation

hi

As a part of one of the interface requirements; i need to create item master and subsequently item branch by using EDI Z process.

As per design, i need to insert a record in F4101Z1 and create item master using R4101Z1I. And then, update the same record (update flag to 2 & blank out SZEDSP) to create item branch using R4101Z1I.

my question is -

Can I update SZMCU at first instance before creating Item master itself? The reason being that I receive all values at initial insert from interface. Will there be any adverse effects if SZMCU is updated while creating Item master record?
