Acceptable methods for restricting cores available to the Oracle database
We recently purchased a DELL R730xd with two quad core processors.
We will be running an Oracle database on the server but our license only covers 4 cores while the server actually has 8.
We have been told that the only way that is approved by Oracle to restrict the number of cores available is by Oracle VM.
Has anybody found information that contradicts that?
I would prefer not to have the complexity of OVM when the only reason we would implement is to stay within the database license.
Yes I am aware of all the wonderful things that could be done with VMs but that is not the issue.
