Using LPNs or Not in WMS

Looking for a little insight.  We are a textiles manufacturing company through acquisition moving from SAP to EBS. I would like to understand how companies are using LPN management ? We have some lot controlled requirements but using LPNs at the carton level seems overkill for me. Having to scan every carton for inventory moves AND during physical inventory seems a bit much so I am looking for information for how other companies use it.
