asset impairments functionality

Hi, we are testing the asset impairments functionality and interested in other sites using this functionality.  In particular we would like to review treatment of salvage value when impairments are applied.  Can the impairments be apportioned between the salvage value and the depreciating component?  It seems that standard functionality takes the full impairment amount off the depreciable basis.
