WO from Sales Order

Hi,

Is there any way other then creating a credit order for the below scenario.?

A Work Order is created from Sales order and is completed with Serial number PQR. The pick slip is run in the sales order cycle and now user realizes that the serial number completed and committed to sales order is wrong.

Can he decommit the serial number from the sales order and commit the correct serial number in the sales order?I believe this may create integrity between WO and the sales order with regard to serial number.

Should we cancel the sales order which inturn cancel the WO and recreate the new sales order?In this case how the cancelled WO will behave?because the inventory is there for the comleted assembly.
