Rolling patch RAC instances with no downtime in EBS 12.2.4

Our EBS 12.2.4 installation has 3 internal and 3 external app nodes and 3 RAC nodes at 11.2.0.4. The concurrent Manager runs on the primary app node and 2nd RAC node.

I am contemplating shutting down concurrent managers and then patch the DB nodes with RDBMS patching to avoid downtime of the application.

I'm not sure how WLS adminserver behaves, so; Is it possible to patch the RAC nodes without taking the appsTier down?

Any guidance is appreciated.
