DBCA 12.2 using ASM fails with PRCR-1079 and ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied

Hi,

I'm setting up a VirtualBox VM with Oracle Linux 7.4, GI 12.2 and Oracle RDBMS 12.2.

I just want to use ASM for my DB so I installed GI 12.2 as a standalone server.  I created the grid user as the owner of the GI product and the installation was successful.

Now I'm trying to create a 12.2 database using ASM but I encounter the following error with DBCA:

The trace file it refers to is not of much help. There's apparently a login issue.
