Business Unit in Customer address Book

Hello,

question on Business Unit  (BU) value in Customer (or) Supplier Address Book (AB) records....

(1)  What functionality does having a BU value provides for Customer or Supplier Address Book process ?

(2)  When a Sales Order (SO) is entered if  Business Unit Value is Invalid in AB record than SO header entry errors from entering SO record..... How function does BU value provides in Customer AB for SO process?
