Data type Date not displaying MM/DD/YYYY

I am on PBCS.

I have always created and used a member for date (HireDate, StartDate, whichever the client prefers). Member is  "saved assumption" with datatype = Date.

I never had any issue in the forms or in Smart View retrievals to submit or see the date format. However, I seem to be having an issue now. The date format cannot be shown in either the form or in Smart view. a numeric equivalent shows up (42619 etc).

Previously I had built them in PBCS classic view. I don't think that should matter but that is the only difference in the applications.
