Mask TIN on 1099R PDFs

According to the instructions page provided by the IRS it is allowable to mask the TIN (SSN) field on the 1099R PDF form. Having this field masked would allow us to send the forms through other methods besides US Mail and would protect companies from data privacy issues. Is this something has already been requested? If not, would it be possible to look at changing this for 2018 Year End? Not sure if this is an enhancement request or a SR.
