Connection code between DM_node / Unpublished Documents and the BP record

We are trying to track how the document flows in the system, start from upload into the BP record (at that moment it will be transfer to unpublished document folder),  and then to dm_node when the publish_path was activated, while we can not find the connection code between DM_node, unpublished documents and the BP record. Can any expert here advised? Appreciated that.
