Naming parameters for Media Objects

Is there a document which details the naming parameters for Media Objects? 

By looking through the various posts and documents, it appears the media object must be <= 10 MB for web clients.  We can't have more than a single period "." in the name. My tests have shown I can have more than 20 characters but I haven't found the length limit there.
