In JDE E1 9.2 transportation, how does a rate table select a route?

Hello MOSC,

In the E1 9.2 Transportation Implementation Guide E63954-02, on Page 74, in Section 7.5.1 Understanding Rate Table Setup, the documentation states,

"To determine what rate to apply for payable charges, the system uses a hierarchy within the rate table. The rate table also selects a route, based on the origin of the shipment."

How is this possible? I understand rates, but how can they pick a route? My understanding of the sequence of steps in the process is as follows:

1. Create a sales order. The system assigns a shipment number.

2. The system selects a route.

3. The system uses the rate schedule on the selected route to check the rate definition(s).

Howdy, Stranger!
