More Backup pieces are getting generating while RMAN backup.

Hi Team,

Earlier while running RMAN backup (level0,level1 and archive) , we were used to get only 2-4 backup pieces after backup completion.

But since last 2 days , we used to get 20+ backup pieces for each backups.

Could you please suggest what are the things are changed in database/ rman catalog ? so that we can reduced backup pieces

Also is it safe to more backup pieces or less backup pieces for each backup ? quite difficult to maintain rman backups.
