PPS Advisory – Sizing the IP 2017 AI Tomcat Web Server

Posting this since we have not seen anything on this topic from Oracle yet.

We just completed our first series of load tests of the new IP 17 AI Tomcat web server.  It should not come as too big of a surprise that now with https the CPU requirements for the web server have increased quite a bit compared to SWE with http.

We have run many load tests but this is the one we are using for sizing the AI.

  • 4 modern fast X64 cores.
  • 50 users.
  • Average hits per second = 50.
  • Average AI CPU observed 7%.
  • Maximum AI CPU observed 25 – 35%.

Note:  On other load tests we observed this AI server was pretty much maxed out when the hits per second approached 700.
