PPS Advisory – Everything you wanted to know about the new IP 17 Gateway

Posting this since we have not seen too many details on how
the new IP 17 gateway works.  After a bit
of hacking we have these details to share with the Siebel community.

  • The gateway now provides load balancing. 
  • Load balancing sends to the Siebel server OM
    executable process with the least load.
  • The Siebel gateway runs as a C++ executable with
    the same siebsrv.exe name we have seen before.
    It appears the only role of this executable is to allow the gateway to
    run as a service.
  • Under the siebsrv executable a java.exe process runs
    the gateway classes and that is where the action really is.
