Parent Child Lot functionality

Hi,

We would like to change the functionality of an item by activating  parent and child lot control. Intially item was under lot control but did not have parent and child lot option activated. Is it possible and how?

When I tried sys. did allow me to activate it but is not reflecting while processing the transaction 'generate parent lot'.)
