Golden gate different versions between Source and Target

Hello Gurus,

I have golden gate version 12.1.2.1.10 21604177 running on source DB 11.2.0.4 and on target Version 12.1.2.1.11 21831216 against 12.1 CDB db . Do i have to set "FORMAT RELEASE 11.2" on the primary extract and secondary extract(pump).

Can someone please help me understand the format release parameter depends on the DB version too?
