How will Golden Gate aid in ILM for Oracle Database

Hi  Gurus,

I have been told  by Oracle  folks that we could use Golden Gate as Archiving tool, and my question remain how is it possible.  Can we move data or create stubs  in production  instance so that  it move data to secondary instance. How will the application then refer  to data that is spread across two database. Kindly  provide insights.
