Item Branch Cat Code - Item Pool Code (PRP0)

Hello,

I have a user request to report open work orders by item family.  For instance, item ABC0312 and ABC0314 are in the same family because they share the same item layout "ABC03XX".  So if I have two open work orders one for each item, the user only wants to see one of them in the report.

So I thought of classifying the items by setting up a family code in the Item Pool Code (PRP0) in Item Branch Category Codes but I am not sure if this code is reserved for any specific functionality in JDE.


Could someone please share more information about this field and how it is used?  Or if there is a cat code specific to my need, that would be helpful.
