Installing patch 26710464 for Database

Dear Team,

I have a patch to be installed on oracle 12C R2 in RedHat 7. Reading the ReadMe.htm of the installation file, i did not find anywhere instructing on backing up the Database and Backing up of the Oracle Home.

I want to confirm why backup instruction is not part of the Prerequisite instruction or are these done automatically during the opatch installation ?
