Listener Version and Compatibility Rules

The following statement appears in the Oracle Net Administrator's Guides for all newer releases of Oracle.

Note:

The release of the listener must be the same as or later than the latest release of all Oracle databases being serviced through the listener.


Attempting to use a version of listener that is older than the version of database will almost always fail.
There are a variety of errors that could occur if you attempt to break this rule.  Too many to list here.

Please do not try to use a prior release of the TNS Listener to service connections to your newer databases.
