To fulfill I/O call, operating system uses CPU?

in Linux Operating System (MOSC) Question

Hi Community,

I have a very basic question:

When a database session is waiting for I/O operations to finish, will it consume CPU resource? In short, to perform I/O operation - System will consume CPU or not?
