R12.1.3 : Question on oraInventory location - better approach

We have completed the first round of upgrade steps to R12.1.3 11.2.0.4 db .

We have one  R12.1.3 test system  running 11.2.0.4 db per server : one is on on RHEL4 32bit and one on SLES11 64bit - both working just fine. The orainventory "architecture" is different on both, and I would like to know which one is the better approach, so that we can conform to  the "better" way when we do the next round of upgrade steps before the final production upgrade.
