Concerns due to GL_JE_LINES data growth

We are having concerns regarding the GL_JE_LINES table's data growth. Currently, we have around 475 million records in this table. And on a monthly basis the data is growing by 16 million records. Business/Audit teams do not favour the concept of purging as they want the historical data of 7 years to lay back in GL_JE_LINES table. We have minor performance issues as of now but considering the table growth, we will run into bigger performance and maintenance issues down the line. We are working towards mitigating this risk. 

Kindly recommend the best approach to minimalize this impact
