Government (Fund) Accounting and Assets

New to Government (FUND) Accounting. Work for a County Government...does the Fixed Asst Module handle everything required?  

I am a tech person not an accountant!   What things do I need to consider for Government (I understand commercial assets!)   If Oracle EBS does not work do you have suggestions of other options?

Currently, the larger load of our assets are handled using spreadsheets!

We need to adhere to GASB 34/35 (so I am told)

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.
