Parent accounts in Account analysis report

when I run an Account Analysis Report in GL, I get to see the parent accounts also in the LOV. But if I choose any of the Parent account and RUN the report then it would not bring any data. In the accounting flexfield, i have only assigned the child accounts to the parent accounts, have not done any Rollup group. Can account analysis report be RUN for Parent Accounts. If then HOW.
