ALERT: Error While Patching Grid Infrastructure 12.2.X or Higher

Description

After applying a patch (opatchauto or manually) to the Grid Infrastructure HOME on 12.2 (or higher) Grid Infrastructure fails to start.
The crspatch* trace file (from running rootcrs.sh -postpatch) shows that the oracleafd.conf file is recreated with afd_diskstring set to an empty value.

Occurrence

This problem can be encountered when applying a patch to 12.2 or higher version Grid Infrastructure home.

Symptoms

After applying a patch (opatchauto or manually) to the Grid Infrastructure HOME on 12.2 (or higher) Grid Infrastructure fails to start.
