Deleting vs Canceling Terms

Are there the pros and cons of deleting future term activated rows instead of canceling them when a student withdraws from a current term?  For example, the student WDs from Spring 2018 but has a future Summer 2018 and Fall 2018 terms activated with no enrollment on Summer and Fall. 

What are the repercussions/impact of deletion vs. cancellation?
