secondary group permissions respected

in Oracle Solaris System Administration (MOSC) Question

We are having an issue with a user is added to a group, that group (GID is less than 3300) is assigned to a folder and the permissions of the group has write enabled, but the user can not write files to the folder.  If the GID is lowered it works.

The folder is on a NFS share that is mounted by one other server to enable live (active-active) redundancy.
