SYS Numeric Query Based Field - Can it look across shells

I have established some SYS Numeric Query Based Fields and they work properly when the data they are querying is all located within the same shell/project as the BP that has the SYS Numeric Query Based fields.  In those cases where the data is located in a different shell than the BP that has the SYS Numeric Query Based fields it fails.  I am not using any thing that filters by the shell so it should work.  I am on Version 15.2 but will be upgraded shortly to 18.4.  Is there a shell restriction that prevents the SYS Numeric Query
