Steps for Converting physical standby to primary before 12c upgrade in the primary database.

Primary database:
DB Version - 11.2.0.4 8-node RAC
DB server: Exadata X6
Physical Standby database:
DB Version - 11.2.0.4 8-node RAC(same patch level as primary)
DB server: Exadata X6 (same patch level as primary)
Both are in the same datacenter. We are planning to upgrade the primary to the 12.1.0.2 version coming week-end, as part of the preparation and immediate fallback plan, we would like first stop the MRP in the standby and switch it as primary and shutdown and then start the 12c upgrade process in the primary database, if the primary database upgrade succeeds we will rebuild the physical standby using the backup from the upgrade database, else we will shutdown the failed database and start using the converted database as our new primary.
