Removing the existing Item serial number and to reassign it to another item.

Hi Guys,

Already serial number is in use by two different items, now user is asking to make correction by removing this serial number from the existing items and to assign to another Item . what is the best possible solution?

Also these items are IB tracked.

Any suggested method to deal such situations. let me know if you have got any references.
