HFM Production Environment - Virtual vs Physical ?

Years ago when we upgraded from HFM 4.1 to HFM 11.1.2.3, we were told to use physical servers in our Production environment due to I/o speed.  It would be too slow with Virtual servers.   We have up to 500 concurrent users at any one time in HFM.

Does this still hold true?  Our Web/Reporting/HFM/FDM App servers are all Physical, out Admin and DRM servers are virtual.
