Waitlist - Waitlisted and Enrolled for same Course, different sections

When using Waitlist, students that are waitlisted for one section of class and successfully enrolls in another section of same course is automatically removed from waitlist  but is not notified or given warning that they are being removed from waitlist?   Is there a configuration setup or process that would ensure that student is notified that they are being dropped from waitlist?   I saw enhancement request #1879 from 2011 but doesn't appear that anything has been done as requested.
