Can we do inventroy transfer without closing work order

Business scenario:

We raise a work order to wash the cans as item number changes after can wash. These are then sent offsite for sterlization.Once received back we raise another work order to complete rest of the process.

Is there a way of completing entire process in one work order by just doing move order transfer from one location to another when the items are sent offsite so to save time?
