Account from Expense to Revenue

Hello - Due to a change in the accounting policy, my company wants to start treating an account, that has been categorized and used as an expense for several years now, as a Revenue account. Is it okay to change the qualifier of the account and type of CCIDs after year end and start using it as a Revenue account? or would you advise creating new accounts? if new accounts, why?

Appreciate any feedback.
