BPA with larger number of lines

We have a vendor BPA that currently has over 50k items. We are seeing some performance issues right now that page doesnt respond etc when you try to add a line manually/ update.

What is the best number of lines that we can have on a BPA ? The users would like to add over 200k, and any recomendation on an approach to do so without affecting perfomance?
