PeopleSoft Asset Management - Asset ID Generation

Hi,

We would like to know if there is any way we can control the length of the Asset_ID field in the PeopleSoft Asset Management. System by default it adding preceding zero's to match 12 digit even though we want to use only 8 or 10 digit from BU Setup.

Ex, We want to start our Asset like 20000000 and same we did in BU configuration. When we start creating Asset and while saving the page system automatically creates 000020000001. Basically we don't want the 4 digit of proceeding 0's. Please advise if there is any way to fix this through configuration without customizing the system.
