On upgrade from 11.5.10.2 to R12.2.4 do we need e-business tax module configured

In our current 11.5.10.2 version Tax functionality is not configured. So do we need etax module configured in R12.2.4 for AP, AR and GL to function normally? In R12.2.4 we do not have any requirement for processing taxable transactions.
