Customization on Delivery Flow - Generic, Pick Release

We are trying to modify Delivery Flow - Generic: to put validation, and apply hold  just before event Pick  Initiated.  Custom function is added  to Delivery flow just before event Pick Initiated. But delivery Id is not available before event Pick  Initiated , custom procedure
was unable to identify Sales Order number needed for validation.  How to resolve this issue?
