OPatch 12.2.0.1.13 on AIX Grid Home Error: This Java instance does not support a 64-bit JVM.

I have downloaded the latest OPatch for Oracle 12.2 for AIX from Oracle Support  - OPatch 12.2.0.1.13

I have unzipped it into Oracle Database Home, and "opatch version" displays the proper version:

oracle@*******::/u01/app/oracle/product/12201>$ORACLE_HOME/OPatch/opatch versionOPatch Version: 12.2.0.1.13OPatch succeeded.

I have unzipped the same zip archive in the Grid Oracle Home, and I get the following:

grid@********::/u01/app/12201/grid/OPatch>$ORACLE_HOME/OPatch/opatch versionError: This Java instance does not support a 64-bit JVM.Please install the desired version.OPatch failed with error code 1

The previous version of OPatch that is installed on the server is: 12.2.0.1.9 and it works well in the same environment. That is why I would not necessarily investigate the Java environment.
