AR- AP netting functionality- Role of Bank Accounts

Hi,

What is the role of bank accounts for AR/AP netting process? Is it only to provide the cash and cash clearing account for accounting purposes?

Is it mandatory to have bank accounts that are used for reconciliation purposes (of checks and receipts) to be selected for netting or is it enough to use a dummy account?
