Translate Calculation in ARM Custom Attribute

Hello,

First I want to know if anyone has used the Translate calculation on a custom attribute in ARM?  If so what does this calculation do?  Does it take a value and convert it to another value?  Or does it provide the FX rate to be used to convert the value?   If it is the first option, I feel like it is missing a piece of the calculation (from currency).   Secondly, how did you set up the calculation?  I've tried several times and I keep getting different errors on missing criteria?   Lastly, do you know if you can link the currency
