EM13.2: Upgrading Agent OPatch

Can I safely use a patch plan to upgrade an agent opatch or does that have to be updated manually?

The last time I used a patch plan to opatch it hosed up all my agents because the new java installer was rolled out but OEM was not prepared to support the update process. That was version 13.9.2.1.0 and 13.9.3.2.0 is available.
