disable certificate validation or wildcard certificates?

We are trying to create a TLS connection with Twilio. Twilio's root CA is a wildcard certificate with hundreds of certificates in it. I can't seem to make this work and the other option according to Twilio is to disable certificate validation. Is either one of these an option?
