Question on basic preferences

Good afternoon. 

I'm working on getting a customer preferences set up and have several thousand records to be set up. 

Can you tell me if there is a faster way to assign a group of customers to a preference group besides having to manually open every record and add the preference group number?  Is there any interoperability to help speed things along?
